Hello! We have just adopted a full breed basset named EMERSON he is the bestdog in the world. Emerson has one blue eye and one brown eye. The vet saidthat there was nothing wrong with his eye sight. What I want to know is, Is this normal or rare? We love our Emerson very much, he is the best thing thatever happened to us. Any information you can give us as new parents we would appriciate.
Thank you for your time.

As you may have expected, I got your name off the WEB page. I have two Great Bassets (Buddha, female, one year old, and Franklin W Fleabisket, male, six months old). I hadn't had a dog in over 20 years, and my girlfriend thought I looked like a basset kind of guy (now there's a picture for ya')... so we went out and bought one... then six months later the other (as she called it... an "extra dog").
So... to get to my question... Franklin has one blue eye! It's rather stunning, and gathers the attention of everyone whom sees it! When I bought him, both of his eye's were blue... and when the second one didn't turn brown, I called the breeder.
She was quite nice about it, and said that if it bothered me... she would take him back and give me another. Well, by this time I'd grown rather attached to the little guy (whom really has a Great personality) and was worried that if I gave him back she'd put him to sleep because he wasn't "show quality" (she seemed very driven that her dogs be "showable").
So my question is... How often does this occur? Do breeders actually kill puppies because the have a blue eye? I've been told I *can't* breed him because this eye thing might be passed on... is this true? Is it possible that his blue eye is more sensitive to light (i.e. do I need to get him sun glasses)? He's a real cutey, but I just don't know about this blue eye thing... he reminds me of David Bowie (sort of a mix between Bowie and Gorbachov because he has a big round orange mark on the top of his head). Is there anything I should be doing special because of his eye?
