So, what's with this "collecting counties" bit? Well, as a geographer I love to travel. I'm the type of person who loves to get to know a place, instead of just touching down, being Joe Tourist, and then leaving with my overpriced souvenirs. I'm a traveler in the tradition of William Least Heat Moon in his book Blue Highways - checking out the backroads, tasting the local food, and most importantly talking with the locals. Through my years of travel I've come to realize that it's not just the place, but also the people associated with that place that provide me with my fondest memories.

This page will eventually include maps of each state I've visited. To date, I've been in 34 states and DC. You may also notice that there are "holes" in my maps in some places - how could he have skipped over this county to visit that one? I set stringent rules for myself that I must follow in order to "collect" a county. I can't have driven through on the Interstate or similar "faceless" highway without having gotten off and explored a bit. I can't have touched down and never left an airport. Stopping at a motel, sleeping, and getting back on the highway doesn't count either.
